Album Review

Norman Granz got this one backwards. Instead of featuring Dizzy Gillespie with the Count Basie Orchestra, he put Gillespie and Basie together in a quartet which the trumpeter naturally dominates. The music is generally quite rewarding, including an unusual version of "St. James Infirmary," but never reaches the great heights one might have expected.
