Rick McGuire pulls double duty at K93 Grand Falls. Yeah somebody on staff is actually able to multi-task !!!!
Being the mid-day announcer 10 am – 2 pm is the fun part, being the Program Director is the easypart. "Everyone’s part of the team and the team is an eager bunch of players, so going to workeveryday is a continuous learning curve."
Being the oldest member of the K93 on-air staff does have it’s advantages. When Rick puts together the Noonhour K93 Electric Lunch show of 60’s – 70’s – 80’s solid gold he can actually remember when John Mellencamp was putting out 45’s as John Cougar, and the Starship were still Jefferson Airplane.
"Let me see anyone else on the air at K93 do that!"
Rick began a career in Radio in 1969, in Woodstock. "Back then we didn’t have any microwave oven in the lunch room. I had to bring a sandwich, and I spread the peanut butter myself!" He’s been on the air in Saint John, Halifax, Regina, Charlottetown, even Sussex. "Sounds like I can’t keep a job. I must admit they did ask me to move on at a couple of those places." "I love the Maritimes, it’s so much easier talking to my audience when I know I’m one of them."
Outdoor activities, especially in the winter, occupy a lot of his time. "I spend a lot of the winter months trying to avoid doing anything out in all that cold." "Summer’s my time." "I like gardening and have almost completely converted my front lawn into flower gardens. I figure in another 3 or 4 years there won’t be a square inch of grass to mow out there."
Rick is married and has 2 grown children, who have their own families, and several household pets that arrived when the kids were living at home. "At least I don’t have to worry about the pets breaking curfews."
