A canoe found in the Madawaska River earlier this week is now back in the hands of its owner.

Early Monday morning, July 30, police received a call that a boat was seen overturned in the Madawaska River in Saint-Jacques.

RCMP, Edmundston Police and the Saint-Jacques Fire Department all scoured the river, looking for anyone who may have been in the boat.

Turns out, the boat got away from its owner on Sunday evening, July 29.

The owner contacted police on Wednesday, August 1, and identified it.
